Adán De La Garza | The Politics of Frequency

 

Usurping the very power of a sound requires a lot of thought, time, and endurance. Art doesn’t need to be pleasant and when it reflects the human state it typically isn’t. Utilizing an array of different audio technology with origins from the military-industrial complex The Politics of Frequency further explores the sonic terrain where noise music and military influenced sonic warfare cross over one another. Diving deeper into the notion of noise music and deliberately experiencing noise as a preparatory measure to understand the impending infliction of sonic warfare onto citizens, the hope is to develop a broader understanding of the weaponizing of sound and become more resilient to sonic dominance and manipulation as a population.

The Politics of Frequency will be exhibited for one weekend only.

Originally from Tucson, Arizona Adán De La Garza holds a BFA in Photography from the University of Arizona and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Media Arts Practices from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has participated in exhibitions at the Deluge Contemporary Art (Victoria, Canada), AS220 (Providence, RI), The New School (New York, NY), The Future Gallery (Berlin, DE), The Tucson Museum of Contemporary Art (Tucson, AZ), Casa Maauad (Mexico City, Mexico), Microscope Gallery (Brooklyn, NY) and festivals such as The Paseo (Taos, NM), PAF Festival of Film Animation (Olomouc, Olomouc, Czech Republic), Currents International New Media Festival (Santa Fe, NM), WNDX Festival of Moving Image (Winnipeg, Canada) and Denver Noise Fest in addition to The Biennial of the Americas (Denver, CO). Adán is also a founding member of the Sound, Video and Performance Art collective The Flinching Eye, was a co-conspirator of the media arts exhibition series Nothing To See Here and a participant at Collective Misnomer. Adán is currently based in Denver, Colorado.

Andrew Busti has been making handmade films in various forms since 1999. His work revolves around the idea of the subjective and the languages that evolve through experience and perception. He is the technical director for the Film Studies Program at University of Colorado in Boulder and teaches classes in Alternative Process and Alchemical Cinema. He works with artists, museums, and archives through the name Analogue Industries Ltd., facilitating new works, helping to preserve any work that may be of value, and always striving to support analog cinema in all its ongoing forms. Andrew is a founding member of Process Reversal, a nonprofit artist-run analog film initiative that currently educates, informs, supports, and outfits artist-run film labs and communities around the globe. He currently obsesses about the reclaiming and refining of silver from the photographic process .999 percent of his time.
